National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST) held a director’s talk titled “Flight Attendant Revenge Story” Director Zhu Yan-Lan in Conversation on April 16, 2026. The event featured emerging Taiwanese director Zhu Yan-Lan, who shared her creative journey in filmmaking and her personal life experiences. The session attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty and students, with lively interaction throughout.
Director Zhu, formerly a flight attendant, transitioned into filmmaking, bringing a sincere and nuanced perspective to issues related to women and life experiences. Her documentary “I Live My Way” received the Special Jury Prize at the 2020 Seoul Webfest and was selected among the Top 10 entries in the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Film Section of the 33rd Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. Her 2024 film “Together Together” further demonstrated her creative strength, earning Best Director and Best Feature Film awards at multiple international film festivals, including those in Berlin, Singapore, Sweden, Dubai, and India, gaining wide international recognition.
During the talk, Director Zhu reflected on her transition from the aviation industry to filmmaking, sharing her experiences of navigating life’s turning points and challenges. Through her works, she explored themes such as setbacks, renewal, and self-realization, encouraging attendees to reflect on their own life journeys and future aspirations. Her candid and insightful sharing resonated deeply with students, prompting active engagement and discussion.
The successful organization of this event was made possible with the strong support of Ms. Zhang Shuying, President of the Department of Civil Engineering Alumni Association. Following the talk, Ms. Zhang generously arranged a private screening, inviting participating faculty and students to attend a complimentary film viewing at Zhonghua Cinema, further extending the impact of the event and enriching the overall learning experience.
The Office of Research and Development stated that the event aimed to introduce diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary experiences, broaden students’ horizons, and enhance their humanistic awareness and critical thinking skills. The university will continue to organize similar cultural and professional exchange activities to foster a dynamic and diverse learning environment on campus.
