The YunTai Performance Hall, formerly known as the Grand Auditorium, was upgraded through a collaboration between YunTech and the Fengtay Cultural and Educational Foundation, which aimed to provide Yunlin County with a venue capable of hosting high-caliber performing arts groups. In November 2018, the Foundation signed a donation memorandum with the university, and together they transformed the Grand Auditorium into a national-level performance hall, which was successfully completed in December 2021. To support musical events, a Steinway piano was purchased in 2023. Following renovation, the facility now features a total floor area of 6,672 square meters, with an elegant and serene exterior, and an interior that includes a multifunctional exhibition hall, a large exhibition corridor, and a national-level performance hall with 1,400 seats. The renovated venue was renamed the “YunTai Performance Hall.” The name “YunTai” not only echoes the pronunciation of “YunTech,” but also carries symbolic meaning: “Yun” refers to clouds and multitude, representing Yunlin University of Science and Technology; “Tai” signifies peace, prosperity, and greatness, while also expressing gratitude for the Fengtay Foundation’s generous contribution to the renovation. The establishment of the YunTai Performance Hall is expected to bring national-level arts and cultural performances to Yunlin, increase opportunities for residents of the Changhua–Yunlin–Chiayi–Nantou region to enjoy high-quality cultural events, and develop into an important venue for international performing arts.
The university’s sports complex encompasses facilities for 11 types of athletic activities, providing a diverse, safe, and well-equipped environment for all faculty and students to promote campus-wide participation in physical exercise. There are 15 student dormitory buildings offering a total of 2,681 beds, with renovations carried out progressively each year. In addition, YunTech has established contracted partnerships with 48 nearby medical institutions to provide comprehensive healthcare services for the well-being of faculty and students. The campus also offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities, with 75 student clubs currently available for free participation. Through integrated campus planning, each college adopts a clustered architectural layout, offering complete and cohesive spatial design. With a fiber-optic infrastructure as its backbone, the university continues to develop toward energy conservation and carbon reduction, enhanced safety monitoring, smart transportation, and healthy and comfortable learning environments. These efforts contribute to intelligent campus management while ensuring an energy-efficient, comfortable, convenient, and safe university environment. In alignment with Taiwan’s 2050 Net-Zero policy, YunTech has formulated its carbon reduction roadmap, aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2046. The university has also established a smart campus network with both wired and wireless broadband, ensuring that faculty expertise and institutional resources are abundant, diverse, and comprehensive, thereby supporting student learning in scientific research, humanities and arts, managerial skills, and design innovation. Upholding its founding principles of foresight and internationalization, the university has built administrative and academic application systems such as single sign-on services, online course registration, digital learning platforms, and online administrative workflows to enhance teaching, research, and operational efficiency, ultimately forming an intelligent and fully networked digital campus.
In terms of industry engagement, YunTech has ranked first nationwide in faculty industry–academia collaboration funding according to the Ministry of Education’s 2018 University Affairs Information Disclosure data, and has remained the top institution among technical and vocational universities for six consecutive years. YunTech has created an industry-friendly environment by establishing the “Industry–Academia–Research Dream Hub Building” as Taiwan’s leading talent cultivation and incubation base for technical and vocational education. The Dream Hub promotes practical teaching by faculty and hands-on, application-oriented learning for students, while strengthening a comprehensive system for talent development, industry–academia research, and technology transfer. Serving as a bridge between industry and YunTech, the Hub facilitates the alignment of academic applied research with industrial needs, integrates technological components, enhances commercialization capabilities, and attracts enterprises for joint development or prototype manufacturing, thereby creating a collaborative platform for university–industry technological innovation. Faculty members actively engage in industry–academia collaboration, and YunTech consistently ranks among the top seven universities nationwide in faculty industry–academia funding, demonstrating the university’s strong capabilities in talent cultivation, industry collaboration, and technological research and development.
Through the implementation of the “Small Giants Cultivation Program,” YunTech cultivates specialized fields and research teams, promoting interdisciplinary integration and generational continuity, and advancing industry–academia collaboration, research and development, and innovation. Since 2023, the former “PBL Research Center (Problem-Based Learning Research Center)” has been refined and transformed into the “Task-Oriented Professional Technology R&D and Service Center,” which has developed into four major industry–academia clusters: Information and Digital Technology, Intelligent Mobility Systems, Creative Consumer Technology, and Net-Zero Technology. Newly appointed faculty within the past five years are invited to join these established clusters according to their expertise, fostering cross-generational collaboration among senior, mid-career, and junior faculty. Activities within the industry–academia clusters include technical exchange, mentorship in building industry partnerships, sharing experiences on government or industry-funded project applications, and organizing off-campus visits and exchange programs.

In terms of international exchange, YunTech has established sister-school agreements with 356 renowned universities across 41 countries, and international students account for approximately 4.51% of the total student population. To broaden students’ global perspectives and enhance international collaboration among faculty, the university actively organizes various international academic exchange activities, such as signing student exchange agreements, promoting overseas teaching programs for faculty and students, encouraging students to study or intern abroad, and creating partnership platforms that support faculty participation in overseas practical training or international academic cooperation, thereby expanding YunTech’s global influence. The university’s teaching quality aligns with international standards through global accreditation. All departments and graduate institutes in the College of Engineering obtained IEET international accreditation for engineering and technology education again in 2024, and the College of Management received its second AACSB international business education reaccreditation in 2024, ensuring that teaching quality and student competencies remain connected with international expectations.

YunTech demonstrates outstanding performance in various areas, including international rankings, teaching quality, academic culture development, industry–academia collaboration, industrial services, international engagement, social responsibility, and student employment. Looking ahead, YunTech aims to pursue “research industrialization, diversified learning, agile decision-making, and international brand development.” The university will adopt strategies such as: integrating smart technology into teaching, research, and administrative processes to create a model smart campus; promoting technological innovation through the upgrading of teaching, facilities, and learning spaces; implementing environmental sustainability principles and fulfilling university social responsibility to generate new educational value; encouraging team-based competitions to strengthen the physical and mental well-being of faculty, staff, and students while fostering a sense of YunTech pride; actively expanding international recruitment for faculty and students and adjusting curriculum design to respond effectively to changes in higher education demands; and enhancing brand communication through multilingual web platforms, news media, and social media management. Through these efforts, YunTech aims to become a more internationally influential smart university.
