NYUST 2026 YunXu Awards Celebrate Cross-Disciplinary Excellence in Sustainability

The 2026 YunXu Awards, hosted by National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, held its award ceremony on May 27 at the College of Humanities and Sciences. Continuing its mission to promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this year’s competition featured categories including Sustainable Writing, Sustainable Storytelling, and the newly introduced Sustainable Educational Materials category. The event highlighted students’ creativity and ability to transform academic knowledge into meaningful social practice.

As one of Taiwan’s distinctive colleges integrating the strengths of humanities and scientific practice, the College of Humanities and Sciences has long been committed to interdisciplinary teaching, research, industry collaboration, and talent cultivation. The college encourages students to engage with sustainability issues through writing, visual media, and digital tools while fostering a strong sense of social responsibility and problem-solving capability.

This year’s competition continued to expand in scale, receiving a total of 64 submissions from 256 participating students. Following a rigorous review process, 16 outstanding projects were selected for awards, demonstrating NYUST students’ depth of reflection and practical commitment to sustainability.

The topics featured in the Sustainable Writing category reflected strong contemporary relevance. The Gold Award was presented to the team led by Lin Chun-Yu for the project “AI Applications in Brain Age Prediction,” which demonstrated how technology can contribute to addressing the challenges of an aging society with a human-centered perspective.

In the Sustainable Storytelling category, students utilized short-form videos and narrative techniques to communicate meaningful social messages. The Gold Award-winning work, “Five Minutes on Pause: The Hands That Catch a Life,” addressed mental health issues through a thoughtful and emotionally engaging perspective, earning high praise from the judges.

Many other outstanding entries explored issues such as campus waste management, evolving patterns of information consumption among university students, and gender equality. These works reflected students’ keen awareness of their everyday environment and broader social structures.

Particular attention was also drawn to the newly introduced Sustainable Educational Materials category. The Gold Award was awarded to “AI Educational Materials for the Sustainable Development of Taiwanese Classical Literature,” which successfully integrated traditional Chinese literary studies with artificial intelligence technology, opening new pathways for sustainable cultural preservation and education.

The competition not only produced remarkable achievements but also provided a platform for NYUST students to demonstrate their creativity and future potential. From ecological conservation and community revitalization to technological inclusion, the participating projects showcased impressive professional quality and practical impact, reflecting the successful integration of sustainability education within the university community.

Looking ahead, the College of Humanities and Sciences at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology will continue promoting sustainability initiatives that encourage students to combine disciplinary expertise with sustainability-oriented thinking. Through these efforts, the university aims to contribute innovative and impactful solutions toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to further advance the development of sustainability education.
