Strengthening Life Education and Anti-Drug Awareness: YunTech Hosts Thematic Lecture “42 Letters from Mother”

To enhance students’ life education and raise awareness of drug prevention, the Office of Student Affairs at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology held a special lecture for third-year students on April 15, 2026, at the Yuntai Hall on campus. The event invited Lecturer Cheng Yao-Chen, a prevention specialist from the Drug Hazard Prevention Center of the Tainan City Government, to share her talk titled “Stories from a Prevention Specialist’s Journal — 42 Letters from Mother.” The session was hosted by Dean of Student Affairs Lin Lan-Dong and attracted enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty.

Lecturer Cheng has long been dedicated to drug prevention education. She joined the prevention specialist team at the Tainan Drug Prevention Center in 2016 and draws upon her personal life experience to support individuals recovering from substance addiction and to promote anti-drug education in schools and communities. She has received the 2022 Tainan City Government Anti-Drug Contribution Award and the 2024 National Anti-Drug Contribution Award. She also contributed to the publication People with Stories — Reflections of Prevention Specialists, sharing narratives of life transformation and renewal through both writing and public speaking.

The lecture centered on “42 Letters from Mother,” vividly portraying the emotional bonds of family and the journey toward self-awareness. Through a series of heartfelt letters, students were guided to reflect on life choices and personal values, with an emphasis on the importance of staying away from drugs and cherishing life. The speaker’s sincere storytelling deeply resonated with the audience, encouraging reflection on family, responsibility, and future aspirations, creating an emotionally impactful atmosphere.

Dean Lin Lan-Dong remarked that the university stage represents a critical turning point in life. He expressed hope that through life education and anti-drug awareness activities, students can strengthen their self-protection abilities and develop positive values, thereby fostering a safe and healthy campus environment. The university will continue to integrate diverse resources and promote multifaceted counseling and educational initiatives to support students’ steady development toward a positive life path.

This lecture not only deepened students’ understanding of the harms of drugs but also conveyed resilience and hope through lived experience, achieving the dual goals of education and student support.
