NYUST Research Breakthrough: Quantum ‘Black Technology’ for Environmental Remediation
With increasingly stringent global standards for environmental sustainability, managing recalcitrant pollutants has become a major challenge in environmental remediation. Professor Chen Ling-Che’s team from the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST) has successfully developed a high-performance quantum dot composite photocatalyst material by combining advanced nanoscience and quantum technology. The team will hold a results presentation on Wednesday, February 4, 115, at 10:00 a.m., demonstrating how quantum effects can bring revolutionary breakthroughs to green energy and environmental remediation.
Breaking Traditional Limits: Using Quantum Dots to Enable Green Remediation
Nanoscience has already been widely applied in electronics and biomedical fields, yet its potential for environmental remediation remains largely untapped. Professor Chen points out that conventional environmental degradation technologies often face limitations such as high costs, poor adsorption of low-concentration pollutants, and low utilization of light energy.
The newly presented results focus on the unique physicochemical properties of quantum dot materials. The research team employed simple nanoscale material fabrication techniques and used the quantum confinement effect to tune the material’s energy gap, successfully developing a novel heterojunction photocatalytic quantum dot material. This technology not only significantly enhances the treatment efficiency for recalcitrant environmental pollutants, but also incorporates green chemistry principles, reducing material preparation costs at the source and minimizing secondary waste generation.
