Strengthening Taiwan–India Higher Education Collaboration: Yuntech Hosts Delegation from SRMIST, India
On June 12, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (Yuntech) welcomed a seven-member delegation from the prestigious SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), India. The two institutions engaged in in-depth discussions on engineering technology, Chinese language education, student and faculty exchange, and broader institutional cooperation. This visit not only highlights Yuntech’s achievements in technological innovation and international education, but also lays a solid foundation for strengthening higher education collaboration between Taiwan and India.
SRMIST is one of India’s leading higher education institutions, renowned for its excellence in engineering, technology, and innovation-driven research. During the visit, the delegation’s first stop was the College of Engineering at Yuntech, where they gained a comprehensive understanding of the University’s research capacity and talent cultivation in the semiconductor field. The delegation expressed strong interest in these research outcomes and actively engaged with faculty and students, expressing their expectation of establishing further collaboration in semiconductor education and research.
The delegation then visited the Precision Instrument Center and the cleanroom facilities to gain first-hand insight into Yuntech’s advanced research infrastructure and laboratory environment. Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged in active discussions with faculty and students on research technologies, equipment applications, and industry–academia collaboration outcomes, offering high recognition of Yuntech’s strengths in engineering education and research.
In addition to its technological strengths, Yuntech also arranged a visit to the Chinese Language Center to introduce its achievements in Mandarin education and international student support. Taiwan’s pivotal role in the global semiconductor supply chain has gained wide international recognition, while Chinese language education has also attracted growing global attention in recent years. Through this exchange, Yuntech demonstrated its interdisciplinary strengths in both technological innovation and language education, which were highly appreciated by the delegation.
A formal exchange meeting was held under the coordination of the Office of International Affairs, with International Affairs Director Ms. Hui-Ching Yeh and Exchange Division Head Mr. Ming-Chun Chang receiving the delegation. Both sides held in-depth discussions on the establishment of sister university relations and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). They also expressed strong mutual interest in advancing cooperation in engineering, language education, student exchange, faculty mobility, and academic collaboration. The discussion further extended to innovative initiatives such as mutual visits between student clubs, cross-border student organization activities, and joint competitions, opening new possibilities for future collaboration.
To provide a comprehensive overview of Yuntech’s research strengths and innovation achievements, the delegation also visited the Smart Electric Vehicle Industry Service and Talent Cultivation Center. They were particularly impressed by the “YunTech ONE” concept vehicle, jointly developed by faculty and students. The delegates not only took numerous photos but also experienced a test ride and highly praised the students’ professional and fluent explanations.
Ms. Cai Ling-Yun from the Taiwan Education Center in India, who is currently teaching Chinese in India, noted that SRMIST warmly welcomes Yuntech faculty members for visiting appointments. The institution offers a monthly stipend of USD 3,000 along with airfare support, and looks forward to deeper academic collaboration with Yuntech faculty members.
Director Yeh Hui-Ching of the Office of International Affairs stated that Yuntech will continue to expand its global partnerships and strengthen ties with leading universities worldwide. Through diverse exchanges and substantive cooperation, the University aims to enhance the international mobility and competitiveness of both students and faculty. As India has become an increasingly important partner in global higher education and talent development, Yuntech places strong emphasis on building long-term relationships with outstanding Indian universities. This visit by SRMIST not only enhanced mutual understanding of each institution’s strengths and development directions, but also established a solid foundation for future student exchange, academic collaboration, and international talent cultivation. Special appreciation was also extended to Professor Hsueh Ya-Hsin from the Department of Electronic Engineering for facilitating this successful exchange.
