Central Taiwan Green Talent Development Center Launched: Ministry of Environment and YunTech Collaborate to Cultivate Net-Zero Professionals

To support Taiwan's 2050 Net-Zero Emissions policy and strengthen green workforce development in Central Taiwan, the Ministry of Environment (MOENV) and National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) jointly held the Inauguration Ceremony of the Ministry of Environment's Central Taiwan Net-Zero Green Talent Development Center and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony on June 15, 2026. The event was jointly witnessed by Minister of Environment Chi-Ming Peng, YunTech President Chuan-Yu Chang, and representatives from government, industry, and academia, marking the official launch of the Central Taiwan Development Center and reaffirming their shared commitment to cultivating professionals who will drive the region's net-zero transition.

In response to the global trend toward net-zero transformation and the growing demand for sustainable business practices, green professionals have become essential to industrial upgrading and sustainable development. The Central Taiwan Development Center serves Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, and Yunlin, establishing a regional talent development network through inter-university collaboration and specialized training programs. The curriculum focuses on four core areas: climate change and greenhouse gas management, greenhouse gas inventory, voluntary emission reduction, and product carbon footprint assessment, equipping participants with practical expertise in carbon management and emissions reduction.

To date, the Center has trained more than 1,000 green professionals, offered 32 training courses, achieved an examination pass rate of 93.3%, and provided over NT$2.36 million in tuition subsidies. In addition, YunTech has partnered with the Workforce Development Agency, Ministry of Labor, to launch Taiwan's first Net-Zero Green Talent Training Program for Workers, offering up to NT$12,000 in full tuition subsidies for employed workers to enhance their professional skills and career competitiveness.

Looking ahead, the Central Taiwan Development Center will continue to strengthen collaboration among government, industry, and academia while expanding its capacity to cultivate green talent. By helping enterprises improve carbon management capabilities and sustainability competitiveness, the Center aims to contribute to the realization of Taiwan's 2050 Net-Zero Emissions vision.

To further expand training opportunities, YunTech's Department of Safety Health and Environmental Engineering will launch the second weekend cohort of the Worker Training Program beginning July 18, with employed workers eligible for 80%–100% training subsidies to strengthen professional skills, enhance workplace competitiveness, and broaden career opportunities. Registration is available through the Workforce Development Agency's In-Service Training Portal.

To encourage participation from university students during the summer and members of the public, a weekday course will also begin on July 20. Tuition discounts are available for current university students under the age of 30, low-income households, lower-middle-income households, and persons with disabilities. Registration is available through the Net-Zero Green Talent Development Program website, or by contacting Ms. Wei-Chi Wang at the YunTech Central Taiwan Net-Zero Green Talent Development Center (+886-5-534-2601 ext. 4411).
