YunTech Annual Sports Day Kicks Off with Full Energy – Campus Unites in Active Celebration

On March 28, 115 (Saturday), National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) held the 35th Annual University Sports Day, following pre-event competitions from March 24–27 that set the stage for this major athletic celebration. The event combined competitive sports with fun activities and welcomed participation from Yunlin County government officials, local communities, and corporate pickleball enthusiasts, creating a vibrant campus sports carnival filled with energy and camaraderie.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

The opening ceremony, hosted by President Chang Chuan-Yu, featured the athlete parade with teams representing the College of Engineering, College of Management, College of Design, College of Humanities, and College of Intelligent Technologies, showcasing each team’s unique spirit and creativity. The campus competitive cheerleading team kicked off the event with an exciting performance, igniting the crowd and setting a lively tone for the day.

Continuing tradition, the swimming team carried the event flag, while the men’s basketball and track teams led the torch procession, symbolizing the continuity of sportsmanship. The athlete oath was delivered by Wu Cheng-Yen, a judo student who won first place in the national college judo competition last year, pledging fair play, dedication, and commitment on behalf of all participants.

Exciting Competitions

At 9:00 a.m., the track field hosted the student tug-of-war finals (men, women, and mixed teams) and the large relay races, with athletes giving their all amid continuous cheering, creating an electrifying atmosphere that brought the competitions to a thrilling peak.

Another highlight was the “YunTech × Yunlin County Government Mayor’s Pickleball Friendship Match”, held at 9:30 a.m. in the indoor gymnasium. This collaborative event featured university executives and county officials competing in a friendly pickleball game, showcasing cross-unit teamwork, promoting public fitness, and adding a unique interactive element to the sports day festivities.

Awards and Community Engagement

Awards were presented for men’s and women’s track championships, overall track excellence, and the spirit award, recognizing outstanding effort and sportsmanship. From 1:00–5:00 p.m., the Sports Park opened for free play and interaction, encouraging all students and faculty to engage in active recreation, fostering a sense of community, and emphasizing the importance of health and well-being. The event concluded successfully with fun, excitement, and memorable moments.
