Yunlin University of Science and Technology Partners with Zhushan Township Office to Take International Students to the 2026 Zhushan Bamboo Art Lantern Festival

In an effort to promote international exchanges of Taiwan's bamboo art culture and invigorate local industries, Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) led a group of international exchange students to Zhushan, Nantou, on January 2, 2026, for the 2026 Zhushan Bamboo Art Lantern Festival cultural experience event. Organized by the Zhushan Township Office and co-organized by YunTech, this event introduced international students to Taiwan’s traditional craftsmanship and local culture through the lantern festival exhibitions and bamboo art cultural tours.

The event took place from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, offering a diverse and enriching itinerary. Students began by visiting the Bamboo Culture Park, where, under the guidance of professional tour guides, they learned about the use of bamboo, the history of bamboo arts, and the industry’s development, gaining an in-depth understanding of bamboo culture’s rich heritage. They then proceeded to the lantern festival venue to experience the creative bamboo lantern displays and the festive atmosphere firsthand.

In addition to the cultural tour and exhibition, students were also able to leisurely stroll through the lantern area, sampling various festival foods from vendors, and enjoying the exciting lantern performances and main light show. At the end of the event, students took home bamboo lanterns, a symbol of bamboo art culture, as souvenirs, leaving with lasting and warm memories of their Zhushan adventure.

The Zhushan Township Office stated that Zhushan, a key hub for Taiwan’s bamboo industry, aims to raise awareness of bamboo art’s value through the lantern festival, promote innovation in the bamboo industry, and stimulate the local economy. The participation of international students is expected to bring greater international attention to Taiwan’s bamboo culture.

Dr. Yeh Hui-Ching, Director of the Office of International Affairs, remarked that the university has long been dedicated to offering international students local cultural experiences, ensuring that students not only gain professional knowledge but also deepen their understanding of Taiwan’s cultural heritage and industrial characteristics. Moving forward, YunTech will continue to collaborate with local governments and industries to plan more internationally relevant exchange activities that combine educational significance with cultural depth, allowing students to become the best ambassadors of Taiwan’s culture through firsthand experiences.
