The Badminton championship on a Rainy Day!

It was the third day of the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2014, and also the day of the badminton finals. Although it rained heavily, the athletes still arrived to take part in the competition with their raincoats and umbrellas. Every athlete tried hard to show off the results of their training and hoped to win an honor for their universities.

The champion of the Women’s single final match was Yi-chun Chen from the Overseas Chinese University. When interviewed, she talked very humbly about her championship. She attributed her success on the day to luck. The most impressive moment in the match was the time when the two teams had scored deuce. She should have won the match easily; however, she lost. Luckily, she beat the opposing athlete. She stated that staying focused helped her to win. As for the champion of the Women’s doubles match, that award went to the team from Fu Jen Catholic University. Chiou-yu You from the winning team defeated Shi-ling Chen to win the championship for the second consecutive year. You also took second place in the singles match.

The champion of Men’s single final match was Chu-kai Ma from the National Taichung University of Science and Technology. The second-place winner, Chi-junh Yeh, said he had known Ma for his great performance. He felt satisfied with his performance throughout his training, though he was not able to increase his ranking. Yeh said that the badminton competition was wide enough for all of the athletes to bring their skills into full play.

The audience gave thunderous support to all the athletes. The badminton matches tested both the athletes’ body and mind. Some athletes tried to catch every serve despite falling over. Although many felt exhausted, they never gave up pursuing the serves. Many of them offered ice remedies and massages to their friends. The spirit of the athletes is something we can all aspire to.
