Liao Yun-Yi Wins her 10th Gold in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2014

Over the past two days at the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2014, 10 new records and one new national record in swimming have been set. The preliminary games of the Women’s 50m freestyle swimming began at 9:30 this morning. Liao Yun-Yi from the National Taichung University of Science and Technology broke the current record with a time of 28.86 seconds.

Liao Yun-Yi is from the Department of Insurance and Finance at the National Taichung University of Science and Technology. She was trained by her father who is also a professional swimmer and the chief of judges in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2014. Liao’s mother educated her in a flexible and liberal manner and hoped that she could excel in both her competitions and studies. Liao is extremely self-disciplined, and drives herself to do the best in her swimming competitions to make her father proud of her.

By spending two hours training each day throughout a very long term, Liao set her records in the past four National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, including this year. She has won nine golds and one silver in the Women’s freestyle, backstroke and butterfly categories. However, this was the first time that she broke the record in the preliminary games as well, a feat which really surprised her. In the preliminary games, Ji Chung-Cheng from National Chiao Tung University came second just behind her with a time of 30.49seconds, which made her feel stressed. This didn’t stop her winning her 10th gold medal. Chen Yi-Chieh from the National Taipei University of Science and Technology won silver with a time of 29.76 seconds.
