Peter Novotny wins 10,000m gold in Running for National Taiwan University at National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2014

The Track and Field competition of National Intercollegiate Athletic Games 2014 came to stage on May 18th.  In Men's 10,000 metres final, Peter Novotny from National Taiwan University wins gold with a time of 35 minutes 3.42 seconds. He had only 2 seconds left behind the record of the champion last year, Chen Hong-Long from Feng Chia University.

Peter Novotny comes from Czech Republic and is studying in applied mechanics Ph.D program in National Taiwan University. Novotny likes to do long distance running in the forest and won 7th Place in Taipei 101 Run Up just two weeks ago. In Men's 10,000 metres final, Peter Novotny and Chen Hong-Long took turns in leading the pack approaching the final laps and Peter took over in the final 150 metres.

Novotny said after competition that it is his first time participating in long track racing and it is different from road running competition he did before. He did not anticipate winning the prize but just focused at the moment when he was running. The schoolmates cheer made him pour out his last strength in the final stretch, and he won the gold medal.
