The award list of the 10th Outstanding Award for Technological and Vocational Education was announced by the Department of Technological and Vocational Education. Ministry of Education (R.O.C.) on December 2nd, 2014. Held by Ministry of Education (R.O.C.) every year, the main purpose of the award is to honor teachers and students who pass qualification exams of practical skills and those who have good performance in international competitions. In 2014, YunTech  won 1 award in the category of excellent performance for technological and vocational education and 2 awards in the category of excellent performance in competitions.

The winner of the award in the category of excellent performance for technological and vocational education was Chen Shia-yun, a graduate student from the Graduate School of Technological and Vocational Education. In Taiwan, most students who have good performances academically choose to study at a general senior high school. For students who choose to study at a technological and vocational high school, they are those who have or are viewed as having poor performance in junior high. Chen stated that she is interested in the food and management field because her parents are both teachers in food and management. She chose to study at a technological and vocational high school rather than a senior high school with the support from her parents and believed that she could learn a certain professional skill at a technological and vocational high school. With her belief, she started to take qualification courses and passed 13 qualification exams. She has won an international award for Barista Skills, and has served as a judge for Wine and Spirit Education, a bread-making competition, and other competitions.

The 2 teams that won in the category of excellent performance in competitions are as the follows:

The first team was comprised of students Chen Li-jung and Lin Yu-wen and they invented “Fun PinBall” under the instruction of Lecturer Chang Ching-hsu from the Department of Industrial Design. Their invention won a Red Dot Design Award for design concept in 2014. The design concept is about integrating the ideas of drawing and rail construction. Kids do not only play pinball but also build it. The rails are not limited to traditional rails but they also act as drawing papers for kids to use their imagination, thus making the pinballs unique. While building the pinballs, kids learn how to interact with their team members at the same time. To make the invention more simple and children friendly, the team observed how kindergarten students played and obtained their feedback several times during the test process. It is hoped that children can learn how to play the pin ball quickly with their imagination.

The second team was comprised of students You Ni from the Department of Business Administration, Hsieh Chiao-we from the Department of Visual Communication Design and Shen Chun-chie from theDepartment of Cultural Heritage Conservation. They won an award at the 2014 Croatian One Minute Film Festival for their film “Bowl”, produced under the instructions of Assistant Professor Chen Szu-tsung and Associate Professor Lin Tay-jou from the Department of Visual Communication Design. The purpose of the film is to question from when the emotions between people are ignored. In the film, parents are preparing a big table for a reunion dinner and waiting for their children to come back but their children are not coming back and are traveling abroad. The waiting of the parents plays the key role in this film and turns abstract emotions into a stark reality. The advanced transportation system and the internet do help people make contact with others easier. The distance and time between each other seems shorter, but it seems the voice is the only thing transmitted rather than concerns and emotions. The film tries to get people to think about their relationships with their loved ones and encourages them not to take their love from their loved ones for granted.
