NYUST News: Professor Wen Chih-Chao Receives Dual Honors—“Da Yu Award” and “Outstanding Engineering Professor Award”
Recognized for excellence in water resources engineering and environmental sustainability, affirming achievements in research, practice, and talent cultivation

National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (NYUST) has once again earned distinction. Professor Wen Chih-Chao of the Department of Environmental and Safety Engineering has dedicated his career to water resources engineering, water resource management, disaster prevention and mitigation, and environmental sustainability. He has recently been awarded the “Da Yu Award” by the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, as well as the “Outstanding Engineering Professor Award” by the Chinese Institute of Engineers. These dual honors recognize his outstanding contributions in academic research, engineering practice, and societal impact, and reflect strong affirmation from both government authorities and professional engineering organizations. This achievement further highlights NYUST’s robust strengths in engineering education, industry–academia collaboration, and sustainable development.

The “Da Yu Award” is a prestigious honor in the field of water resources, symbolizing high recognition of professional contributions and public service in water engineering. The “Outstanding Engineering Professor Award,” conferred by the Chinese Institute of Engineers, recognizes engineering educators who demonstrate excellence in technological development, practical application, and societal influence. Professor Wen’s receipt of both awards represents not only a significant milestone in his long-term dedication to engineering research and professional practice, but also underscores NYUST’s commitment to pragmatic, application-oriented education and the advancement of engineering innovation for sustainable development.

Professor Wen has long focused on research in water resource management, disaster prevention and mitigation, environmental engineering, and smart water systems. He actively promotes innovative technologies and sustainable governance models, translating academic research into real-world applications that enhance the quality of public infrastructure, improve water management efficiency, and strengthen environmental resilience. His research outcomes address critical challenges such as climate change adaptation in water resources and disaster risk management, while also providing valuable insights for government policymaking, engineering practice, and local governance.

In teaching and talent development, Professor Wen embodies NYUST’s educational philosophy of practical application and interdisciplinary integration. He is committed to cultivating engineering professionals who possess strong technical competence, global perspectives, and a sense of social responsibility. By integrating research into teaching and reinforcing learning through practice, he guides students to engage with key issues in water engineering, environmental sustainability, and public safety. His dedication has earned wide recognition from students, alumni, and industry partners.

NYUST stated that Professor Wen’s receipt of both the “Da Yu Award” and the “Outstanding Engineering Professor Award” is a strong affirmation of his long-standing contributions to academic research, engineering practice, public service, and talent cultivation. It also reflects the university’s sustained efforts in advancing engineering excellence, strengthening industry linkages, and addressing societal needs. Looking ahead, NYUST will continue to integrate academic research capabilities with industry demands, deepen research in water engineering, smart governance, and sustainable development, and cultivate outstanding engineering professionals equipped with innovation capability and practical skills, contributing to national development and a sustainable future.
