MIT Animal Wonderland Presents “Do Re Mi Si-leh-tō?” at YunTech YunTai Performance Hall
A New Family Theatre Experience Blending Music and Taiwanese Language
The YunTai Performance Hall at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) will present the acclaimed family music theatre production “Do Re Mi Si-leh-tō?” on August 22, performed by MIT Saxophone Ensemble’s family theatre brand, “MIT Animal Wonderland.” The production combines music, theatre, and interactive performance to create an engaging artistic experience for both children and adults.
Founded in 2017, MIT Animal Wonderland has long been dedicated to integrating professional instrumental performance with theatrical storytelling, producing works designed for family audiences. Over the years, the group has built a strong and loyal audience base with consistently positive reception. Recognizing the declining exposure of children to local languages, the ensemble launched “Do Re Mi Si-leh-tō?” in 2024 with a mission to promote Taiwanese culture. The production incorporates extensive Taiwanese-language dialogue alongside live saxophone performance, allowing children to naturally engage with the language while developing an appreciation for music and performing arts.
Since its debut, “Do Re Mi Si-leh-tō?” has received wide recognition and has been invited to perform at major venues and festivals, including MUZIKids Children’s Classical Music Festival and the New Taipei City Sound Arts Festival. It has also been acknowledged under the Ministry of Culture’s “Taiwanese-language Mainstreaming Program for Performing Arts.” The production has toured extensively across Taiwan, including performances at the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center, New Taipei City Arts Center, National Theatre Experimental Theatre, Eslite Performance Hall, National Cheng Kung University Guangfu Hall, Penghu County Performance Hall, and Taipei City Government Family Theatre. With more than 20 performances and over 15,000 audience members, many shows have sold out, demonstrating its strong popularity among family audiences.
The latest touring version features a fully upgraded production. Continuing the ensemble’s signature “saxophone theatre” format, the performance centers on a saxophone quartet, weaving together music, drama, and physical expression into a rich stage language. Unlike conventional musicals that rely on singing, characters in this production express emotions through saxophone performance, making music an essential narrative force and offering audiences a refreshing theatrical experience.
The production also expands its creative and musical design. A particularly popular character—the “monkey”—will be performed by an artist skilled in percussion, adding rhythmic depth and dynamic stage energy. Several musical pieces have been newly arranged and expanded, culminating in a final ensemble performance featuring saxophone, percussion, and multiple instruments. The vibrant animal ensemble finale delivers a joyful and energetic conclusion to the show.
Through this invited performance at YunTech, the production aims to bring high-quality family theatre to Yunlin while promoting Taiwanese language and cultural appreciation through music. It also encourages children and parents to share meaningful theatrical experiences together, fostering language awareness, artistic engagement, and lasting family memories.
