Yuntech Department of Digital Media Design Shines at the Vision Get Wild Awards
“zzzap” Ignites Creative Energy as Student Projects Earn Recognition and an Exhibition Opportunity in Japan
The Department of Digital Media Design at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (Yuntech) participated in the annual Vision Get Wild Awards from May 28 to 30, showcasing its graduation exhibition, “zzzap.” The exhibition highlighted the creativity, innovation, and practical achievements of the department’s graduating students. Among numerous outstanding entries, Yuntech students received several prestigious awards, demonstrating the department’s excellence in digital media education and creative practice.
The graduation exhibition theme, “zzzap,” draws inspiration from the onomatopoeic sound of electrical current, symbolizing the moment when ideas spark and flow through the mind. The exhibition conceptualizes the creative process as a form of neural transmission, transforming thoughts and emotions into signals that ultimately lead to tangible creative outcomes. Different “transmitting substances” were used to represent the department’s three core areas of specialization: Computer Animation, Interactive Media, and Media Integration. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and integration, the exhibition aimed to showcase the vibrant and diverse creative energy cultivated within the department.
Gold Award Winner Earns Opportunity to Exhibit at Japan’s BitSummit
In the Digital Game category, “A Lovely Night,” created by student Li Cheng-An under the joint supervision of Professors Hsu Chih-Wei and Pai Nai-Yuan, received the Gold Award in the PC and Console Games Division, becoming one of the most celebrated projects of the exhibition.
The project not only earned high praise from domestic judges but also distinguished itself in the BitSummit 2027 Qualification Competition (Yoroshiku Proposal Contest), securing an opportunity to exhibit at BitSummit, Japan’s largest independent game festival. This achievement marks another important milestone in bringing Yuntech students’ creative work to the international stage.
A Lovely Night is a 2D side-scrolling platform action game built around the core mechanic of explosions. Challenging conventional platform game design, players cannot move by walking; instead, they must rely on the recoil generated by a single bomb to navigate and fly through a chaotic and demanding world. The game’s distinctive concept and highly challenging gameplay design earned unanimous praise from the judging panel, showcasing the students’ exceptional abilities in game design and development.
Silver Award for Innovative Sign Language Communication Design
Another award-winning project, “Put Your Hands Up!”, was created by students Chen Chien-Ju and Yu Shan-Mei under the supervision of Professor Lu Li-Shu. The project received the Silver Award in the Communication Design Division.
Based on Taiwanese Sign Language, the project developed a Dynamic Sign Language Public Icon System that transforms sign language gestures into intuitive visual symbols through the integration of 3D and graphic design. By making sign language more accessible and easier to learn, the project encourages its integration into everyday life and promotes more inclusive and accessible communication.
“Sonicopia” Wins National Competition Award
Also supervised by Professor Lu Li-Shu, the project “Sonicopia,” created by students Li Tsai-Hsuan, Kuo Chin-Tung, Hsu Pei-Chun, and Liao Yu-Hsiang, was awarded Third Place in the 2026 National Competition for Student Practical Projects at Technological and Vocational Colleges and Universities.
The project is a speculative design centered on the concept of a voiceprint identity card. As digital identities today are largely constructed through visual information, the project explores an alternative future scenario in which an individual’s voice becomes the primary basis of identity. It raises questions about how personal identity, social interaction, and societal values might evolve under such conditions. Participants use their own voices, which are analyzed by artificial intelligence to generate unique virtual avatars based on distinct voiceprint characteristics.
Creativity, Innovation, and Future Potential
The exhibition attracted numerous distinguished guests, faculty members, alumni, and supporters. Visitors highly praised the students’ creativity, technical expertise, and thoughtful engagement with contemporary issues, while encouraging graduates to continue pursuing exploration and innovation in their future endeavors.
These outstanding achievements reflect not only the students’ growth and learning over the past four years but also the Department of Digital Media Design’s long-standing commitment to creative education and practical skill development.
Looking ahead, the department will continue to encourage students to embrace innovation, engage with industry, and connect with international platforms. By integrating creativity with technology, Yuntech remains dedicated to cultivating the next generation of digital content professionals equipped with interdisciplinary expertise and a global perspective.
