National Yunlin University of Science and Technology and Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum Sign MOU to Advance Smart Museums and Cultural Innovation

To foster a new paradigm that integrates humanities and technology, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology and Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on May 19, 2026. The partnership aims to integrate interdisciplinary research capabilities with world-class museum resources to jointly promote “AI Smart Museums” and cultural heritage preservation, while also expanding collaboration in industry–academia cooperation and talent development.

The signing ceremony was held at the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, with the majestic Fo Guang Buddha Statue serving as a symbolic witness to the agreement. The event was attended by Chang Chuan-Yu, senior university administrators, and experts from the university’s Intelligent Recognition Industry Service Research Center specializing in artifact recognition. Representatives from the museum included Abbot Director Venerable Juecheng, Vice Abbot Venerables Yirun, Yongrong, Yongjun, and Youxian, as well as Executive Director Venerable Juelin. Both sides jointly marked the beginning of a new chapter integrating humanities with digital innovation.

Following the signing ceremony, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on concrete areas of collaboration. The NYUST project team proposed four key interdisciplinary initiatives tailored to the museum’s development needs:

  • AI Smart Museum Development: Utilize AI technologies to enhance digital transformation and establish a next-generation intelligent museum environment.
  • Multilingual Smart Guided Tours: Deploy AI-powered multilingual interpretation systems to enhance interactive experiences for global visitors.
  • Energy Efficiency and Green Upgrades: Improve nighttime lighting systems and integrate university-developed energy management technologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Plant Disease and Ecological Management: Provide technological solutions for pest and disease monitoring to support a healthier outdoor ecological environment.

After the ceremony, President Chang Chuan-Yu immediately directed university teams to initiate task-specific implementation plans. He emphasized that National Yunlin University of Science and Technology has long been committed to connecting academic research with social responsibility, applying advanced expertise to address real-world industrial and societal needs. This collaboration offers students an exceptional opportunity for hands-on practice within a world-class cultural venue, jointly transforming the museum into a benchmark for smart museum innovation.

Venerable Abbot Director Juecheng highly commended the university’s technical capabilities. He noted that since its establishment, the museum has embraced forward-looking principles in energy management and environmental education, earning international recognition in recent years. He further stated that future developments—including smart guided tours, botanical inventory systems, and energy management optimization—will rely heavily on NYUST’s professional expertise. Through this collaboration between an international cultural institution and cutting-edge academic technology, Taiwan’s strengths in innovation are expected to gain greater visibility on the global stage.
