NTUST Applied Chinese Course Showcase Highlights Sustainability Through Student Creativity and Practical Innovation

National Yunlin University of Science and Technology’s Applied Chinese course continues to integrate contemporary issues with practical skills training. On May 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., the university held the “Applied Chinese Course Achievement Exhibition” in DCB05, featuring a diverse range of student-produced multimedia and presentation projects centered on sustainable development.

The course curriculum incorporates practical training in digital résumé writing, social media marketing, video production planning, and reflective life writing, moving beyond the framework of traditional Chinese language instruction. By strengthening both written communication and digital media literacy, the course equips students with the practical Chinese language application skills required in the modern era, while making language education more responsive to social developments and future trends.

This semester’s exhibition showcased a number of student-produced short videos addressing topics related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including climate change, water resource conservation, marine sustainability, local economic development, campus bullying, and gender equality. Through visual storytelling and data collection, students explored the relationship between daily life and the environment, presenting their observations and reflections on sustainability issues in creative and engaging ways.

The course instructor noted that the project-based assignments and public exhibition were designed to help students understand that sustainable development is not merely a slogan, but an important responsibility that requires collective participation. The program also aims to cultivate students’ awareness of public issues and strengthen their interdisciplinary integration skills, ensuring that teaching remains closely aligned with societal needs.

Participating students also shared their reflections and learning experiences from the production process. One student focused on emotional challenges within campus life, emphasizing the importance of managing interpersonal relationships as a key issue for university students. Another student explored water resource issues, leading to deeper reflection on water conservation and environmentally friendly practices in everyday life. Students expressed that through hands-on research and video production, they gained a more concrete understanding of the importance of sustainable development for both the environment and human society, while also becoming more aware of the global environmental challenges facing the world today.

The exhibition attracted many visitors for viewing and discussion, fully demonstrating the Applied Chinese course’s integration of theory, practical application, and social engagement at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology.
