To further advance its New Southbound education strategy, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) actively expanded its international engagement through a four-day academic visit to Vietnam from March 9 to 12, 2026. Professor Yeh Hui-ching, Vice President for International Affairs, participated in the delegation organized by the Overseas Joint Recruitment Committee. The visit included exchanges with six leading universities in southern Vietnam, as well as Dinh Thien Ly Memorial High School, founded by the Phu My Hung Group. Through on-site visits and high-level discussions, YunTech not only strengthened partnerships with three existing sister universities but also initiated plans to establish new collaborations through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with three additional institutions, demonstrating its strong commitment to attracting outstanding Southeast Asian students to Taiwan.YunTech currently maintains sister university partnerships with the University of Science, Vietnam National University–Ho Chi Minh City (HCMUS), the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), and Nong Lam University (NLU). During the visit, Professor Yeh presented institutional souvenirs and engaged in in-depth discussions with partner universities on future collaboration opportunities, including dual-degree programs, short-term student exchanges, and joint research initiatives. She emphasized, “These three institutions are among YunTech’s most important and longstanding partners in Vietnam. Moving forward, we aim to expand cooperation from student exchanges to faculty collaboration and laboratory-level research, ultimately working toward the establishment of an international academic alliance.”In addition to consolidating existing partnerships, YunTech actively pursued new collaborations with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education (HCMUTE), Can Tho University (CTU), and Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP). During recruitment presentations, Professor Yeh introduced YunTech’s academic strengths across various colleges, including semiconductor research and development, artificial intelligence, and talent cultivation—key areas in Taiwan’s higher education landscape. She also outlined scholarship opportunities available to Vietnamese students, as well as two major national programs: the International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP) by the National Science and Technology Council, and the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) by the Ministry of Education. These initiatives provide pathways for outstanding Vietnamese students to pursue academic research and internships in Taiwan, supporting their long-term academic and career development. The presentations attracted significant interest from local faculty and students, and YunTech is currently planning to formalize partnerships with these institutions through MOUs.Professor Yeh also expressed her sincere appreciation to the Overseas Joint Recruitment Committee for organizing the visit, and to the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City—led by Director Lin Wei-chih—for their invaluable support in facilitating the program. She noted that YunTech places great importance on academic exchange and talent development with Vietnam. The university currently employs a Vietnamese faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and a Vietnamese staff member in the Office of International Affairs, providing dedicated support to its 68 Vietnamese students. This visit represents not only a key opportunity to expand international student recruitment but also a significant step in enhancing YunTech’s global visibility. The university looks forward to welcoming more outstanding Vietnamese students in the future.
